TRANSLATIONS

“I Am a Pirate King”

Oh, better far to live and die
Under the brave black flag I fly,
Than play a sanctimonious part,
With a pirate head and a pirate heart.
Away to the cheating world go you,
Where pirates are all well to do;
But I'll be true to the song I sing,
And live and die a Pirate King,

For I am a Pirate King!
And it is, it is a glorious thing
To be a Pirate King!
For I am a Pirate King!
And it is, it is a glorious thing
To be a Pirate King!

When I sally forth to seek my prey,
I help myself in a royal way.
I sink a few more ships, it's true,
Than a well-bred monarch ought to do;
But many a king on a first-class throne,
If he wants to call his crown his own,
Must manage somehow to get through
More dirty work than e'er I do,

For I am a Pirate King!
And it is, it is a glorious thing
To be a Pirate King!
For I am a Pirate King!
And it is, it is a glorious thing
To be a Pirate King!
Hurrah for the Pirate King!

“ O mio babbino caro”

Oh my dear father,
I like him, he is very handsome.
I want to go to the Porta Rossa to buy the ring!
Yes, yes I want to go there.
And if my love were in vain,
I would go to the Ponte Vecchio bridge
and throw myself into the Arno river.
I am pining for him and tormented.
Oh God! I want to die.
Daddy have mercy, have mercy!

“The Light in the Piazza”

I don’t see a miracle shining from the sky,
I’m no good at statues and stories I try.
That’s not what I think about,
that’s not what I see,
I know what the sunlight can be.

The light in the piazza.
Tiny sweet and then it grows,
and then it fills the air,
who knows what you call it but it’s there.

Out of somewhere I have something
I have never had;
And sad is happy, that’s all I see.

The light in the piazza.
It’s rushing up, it’s pouring out,
it’s flying through the air.
All through the air.
Who knows what you call it, but it’s there.

All I see is, all I want is tearing from inside.
I see it now, I see it.
It’s everywhere and everything, Fabrizio!
The light in the piazza, my love.

“Vilia”

Now gather as we’ve done before,
to sing our favorite song of yore.
About a maid of wide spread fame,
you know that Vilia was her name.

There once was a Vilia, a wood maiden fair,
who lived long ago in a dark forest lair.
Along came a huntsman she stopped to beguile,
enchanted he gazed at her rapturous smile.
Then with unexpected feeling, passion he could not deny;
Softly, longingly he began to sigh.

Vilia, oh Vilia your magical fire,
captures, enraptures my yearning desire.
Vilia oh Vilia will love tell me why,
in your embraces I die!

“Oh What a Beautiful Mornin”

The wood maiden silently nodded her head,
and drew him within to her dark forest bed.
She kissed and caressed him as no mortal had,
transporting the heart of the innocent lad.
But, before the lad could tell,
she vanished in a misty vale.
Softly, echoes a lover’s sweet farewell.

There’s a bright golden haze on the meadow,
There’s a bright golden haze on the meadow.
The corn is as high as an elephant’s eye,
An’ it looks like it’s climbin’ clear up to the sky.

Oh, what a beautiful mornin’,
Oh, what a beautiful day.
I’ve got a beautiful feelin’,
Ev’rything’s goin’ my way.

All the cattle are standin’ like statues,
All the cattle are standin’ like statues.
They don’t turn their heads as they see me ride by,
But a little brown mav’rick is winkin’ her eye.

Oh, what a beautiful mornin’,
Oh, what a beautiful day.
I’ve got a beautiful feelin’,
Ev’rything’s goin’ my way.

All the sounds of the earth are like music,
All the sounds of the earth are like music.
The breeze is so busy it don’t miss a tree,
And an ol’ weepin’ willer is laughin’ at me.

Oh, what a beautiful mornin’,
Oh, what a beautiful day.
I’ve got a beautiful feelin’,
Ev’rything’s goin’ my way.
Oh, what a beautiful day!

“As Long as He Needs Me”

He doesn’t act as though he cares,
but deep inside I know he cares,
and this is why I’m tied right be his side.

As long as he needs me,
I know where I must be.
I’ll cling on steadfastly,
as long as he needs me.
As long as life is long,
I’ll love him right or wrong,
and somehow I’ll be strong,
as long as he needs me.

If you are lonely, then you will know
when someone needs you,
you love them so.
I won’t betray his trust,
though people say I must.
I’ve got to stay true just
as long as he needs me.

“I’d Give My Life for You”

You who I cradled in my arms,
asking as little as you can.
Little snip of a little man.
I know I’d give my life for you.

You didn’t ask me to be born,
why should you learn of war and pain?
To be sure you’re not hurt again,
I swear I’d give my life for you.

I’ve tasted love beyond all fear,
and you should know it’s love that brought you here.
And in one perfect night,
when the stars burned like new,
I knew what I must do.

I’ll give you a million things I’ll never own,
I’ll give you a world to conquer when you’re grown.
You will be who you want to be.
You can choose whatever Heaven grants.
As long as you can have your chance,
I swear I’d give my life for you.

Sometimes I wake up reaching for him,
I feel his shadow brush my head,
but there’s just moonlight on my bed.
Was he a ghost, was he a lie?
That made my body laugh and cry?
Then by my side the proof I see,
his little one, Gods of the Sun, bring him to me.

You will be who you want to be.
You can choose whatever Heaven grants.
As long as you can have your chance.
I swear I’d give my life for you.
No one can stop what I must do,
I swear I’ll give my life for you.
